Airtel Seychelles, Bharti Airtel’s first foray outside India some 17 years ago, yesterday celebrated Airtel’s achievement of becoming the third largest mobile operator worldwide in terms of subscribers.
Present at the small ceremony which was held in the garden of the Providence office, were the Minister for Health, Mrs. Mitcy Larue who was one of the company’s first customers back in 1998, the Indian High Commissioner to Seychelles, H.E Mr. Sanjay Panda, the Principal Secretary for Information Communications Technology, Mr. Benjamin Choppy, Miss Seychelles... another world 2015 Linne Freminot, CEOs from various organisations and companies, other guests and staff.
Airtel Seychelles Managing Director, Amadou Dina said what was amazing was that “Airtel has had a deep impact on the lives of the people and society”. “Airtel serves the needs of major corporations as well as fishermen, farmers and construction workers”, he pointed out. He said that being classed 3rd in the world is admirable taking into consideration that Bharti Airtel is a company which was launched only 21 years ago. “Airtel Seychelles has been in the forefront of innovation, 1st to launch prepaid services, 3G, 3.75G, 4G and mobile money, and we will continue with this trend,” Mr. Dina promised to those present.
Minister Larue said she was proud that Seychelles was part of the Airtel group and congratulated Bharti Airtel for this important milestone.
During the ceremony, other customers who have been with Airtel Seychelles since 1998 and two of the newest customers received tokens, which included 4G routers and data bundles, as well as certificates of appreciation.
Airtel distributors, high value and corporate customers as well as the other guests also received gifts of branded items and certifcates. Four members of staff who have been with Airtel Seychelles since its launch also received special gifts and a certificate.
